Do I have to be an EAA member to attend?

No, the workshops are open to anyone interested in learning the skills necessary to build their own aircraft.  EAA members do receive a discount.

Can I take more than one workshop at a location on one weekend?

You are only able to take one workshop each weekend.  Each workshop is a full 2 days in length.

When I complete a course will I be able to do all the related work on my project unassisted?

We try but can't achieve the impossible in 2 days instruction.  These courses will give you the basics and resources to proceed with your project, proficiency and further knowledge comes with the practice of doing.

How much time is actually spent on 'Hands On' activities?

The majority of the workshop time is spent 'Hands On'. about 1/4 of the time will be spent in lecture & discussion.  Be sure to wear your work cloths.

What are the hours of the workshops?

Registration begins promptly at 7:30am on Saturday with the workshops beginning promptly at 8:00am.  Saturdays's activities run through to about 5:00pm and the hours Sunday are 8am through 3:30.

Do I need to bring any of my tools?

No, we provide all materials & required tools.

Will I have time for lunch?

We do break for lunch, a sandwich tray & drinks are provided.

How many people will be in each class?

We try to limit class sizes to about 16 per instructor.

How can I find out what hotels are in the area?

We will include this information in your registration packet.

I would like to bring another family member.  Is that possible?

Yes, we encourage family & friends participation.  Children must be at least 14.  There is a special discount for additional seats purchased at time of booking.

Can I pay for the workshop the day I arrive?

No. We must plan for committed attendees so prior payment is necessary.  If you need to cancel, a full refund will be provided as long as you notify us at least seven calendar days prior to the workshop, a $100 cancellation fee applies if you cancel within seven days prior to the course.  A 'No Show' will not be entitled to a refund.

How do I know where the workshop is located?

Workshop addresses & map locations can be found in our info packet (& elsewhere on this website).  We will also have signs visible directing to the venue.

Do I take anything home with me?

All courses provide you with a detailed workbook and a certificate of completion.  In several courses you will build a small project to take with you.

Are the instructors volunteers or professional?

All our instructors have high qualifications.  They are professionals or highly experienced in their field of instruction and are compensated for their instruction.

May I bring my own project to the class to work on?

Because we have a set curriculum that includes a project, we do not encourage people bringing their own project.  If we had separate items to work with it would create confusion for the rest of the class.

I'm designing my own aircraft, do any of the workshops cover basic design issues?

No, structural design will not be covered in any of the workshops.

Why do you not have the workshops in more locations?

The EAA Sportair Workshops are presented as a self sustaining program of the EAA. It is very difficult to find suitable locations, and meet the expense of shipping our substantial cache of tools & materials, and the expense of travel.
